Humility

When you’re invited to a dinner party

Don’t sit yourself at the head of the table

What if that place

Is reserved for someone

More important

Than you

The embarrassment when told:

‘Give your seat away.’

And you’ll be left

With whatever seat remains

At the foot of the table

Instead, take the place

Reserved for the least important

When your host sees you

He will say:

‘We have a better place for you!’

And you’ll be moved up the pecking order

In front of all the other guests

Those who have an inflated sense of self worth

Will be humbled

And those who truly act humbly

Will be acclaimed
